Our mission is:

Getting students back on grade level
when they have fallen behind
so that they can be

successful in school
and allowing students who are

already successful
to accelerate in their learning
by individualized programs
that put them ahead of grade level.

About The Tutoring School

The Tutoring School is the place for students to set goals and achieve them.  Our students decide what they want to do, and then they do it. We emphasize hard work, application of study skills, ethical conduct, high production and success!  Whether a student is behind and wants to catch up or is a professional and needs a reduced schedule, our students are set up to win, not lose.

The results we strive for with graduates from our Elementary, Junior High and High School programs are: “Students moving toward their life goals, completing required grade level subjects with full understanding, application and 100% competency.”

Age range for our Private School:

Due to the individualized nature of our instruction, and small class sizes of 6 to 9 students, our school accommodates the needs of students from a wide range of ages.  We accept students starting at 3rd grade level through high school graduation.
For students who have fallen behind:

We deliver One-on-One Tutoring (to all ages, in many subjects), Booster Classes (1 teacher to 3-5 students, on one specific subject), and also run a year-round secular Private School.

In our Private School, individualized academic programs get students on or above grade level in basic skills such as reading, writing and mathematics.  This ensures a firm foundation in academic ability from which to progress in all future studies.

Our personalized programs enable students who have fallen behind grade level to catch up and subsequently to advance rapidly in various subject areas.

Once they have mastered the basic abilities in reading, writing and mathematics required for grade level, they can go on to a standard elementary, junior high or high school curriculum here at our school, or they can return to their previous school or any school of their choosing.

The result we strive for is: “A student whose academic ability has been restored, is performing on or above grade level and knows he can make it in school.”
For students who are already successful:

Accelerated individualized curriculum programs are designed for students who are on or above grade level but wish to learn more rapidly, have special scheduling needs, such as performers, or prefer to achieve the academic excellence provided through personal attention and programming. Our standard elementary and secondary curriculum and delivery stands out as a truly stellar alternative to the “typical” education being delivered in public schools, and private schools today.

For students who need to graduate High School:

We help students who are nearing the age of graduation and who are not close to finishing school.  We give the students a tailor made program that will get them enough credits to graduate and then help them very closely to get through it.  As an example, they can finish two grades or more in one year in our program, whereas if they were in public school, they would have to go to school for two more years.  They can also go to our school in preparation for their GED or CHSPE (California High School Proficiency Exam).  We can get them prepared, filling in any holes in their education that would prevent them from being able to get their certificate.

In addition, we offer the following:

1) Study Skills:  The Tutoring School is an Applied Scholastics school, and is licensed to offer the Applied Scholastics study courses to our students. The students learn about the barriers to study as researched and developed by Humanitarian/Educator, L. Ron Hubbard.  With this information and these study tools in hand, our students form an incredible foundation for future learning in any area, field or subject.

2) Low Student-Teacher Ratio:  The Tutoring School maintains a student-to-teacher ratio of 6-9 students to one teacher.  Our students experience a challenging and inviting academic program that meets and surpasses state academic requirements.  Our low student-to-teacher ratio allows us to give each student excellent supervision in pursuit of their academic goals.  This ratio is also maintained during our summer school.

3) Our professional tutors provide one-on-one tutoring for students of all ages.  Tutoring is available for nearly all subjects, including core subjects, languages and test preparation.  All tutoring is done by appointment to fit the student's needs.  Services are provided at the school or in your home, for an additional fee.

The basic principles followed by the school include:

1. Educate the child in front of you.

2. Emphasize the rightness and acknowledge it at all times.

3. First give the person the basic academic tools that are necessary before introducing “curriculum.”

4. Student time on task is the most important time spent in any educational program.

5. So long as a child is physically intact there is no reason why the child cannot be educated.

6. All races and creeds are welcome at The Tutoring School.

7. All students must be drug and alcohol free.

8. Utilize fair and adequate grading systems to measure and encourage student performance.

9. Every student is accountable for his or her own production.

10. Keep student and parents informed on student progress.  Maintain consistent communication between parents and the school.

11. Every 6-8 weeks, monitor each student’s progress on their individual program and where insufficient progress is made, investigate and correct.

12. The student-to-teacher ratio should be as low as is possible and viable.

13. Children need individual educational programs aligned with their purposes and goals in life.  In order to accurately program a child for education, one must meet with the child and find out what is going on in order to be able to apply the information.

14. Teachers ensure that students demonstrate respect for others, ethical conduct, and personal responsibility at all times; thus learning may occur.
